Luis Fernando Velasco received a law degree from the “Universidad Católica Argentina” (1997), where he also specialized in Criminal Law (2001). In addition, he has a Doctorate in Legal Sciences (UCA), in which he is preparing the thesis.
Professional Experience: Luis provides legal advice in highly complex litigation, in the areas of corporate criminal law, tax criminal, foreign exchange, fraud and asset recovery, prevention of corruption and money laundering, extradition & international cooperation, corporate governance and criminal law in general. He intervened as a professional in many of the most relevant and complex criminal matters in the region, assisting individuals, companies, the national state and foreign states.

In the public sphere, he fulfills the role of advisor to the Ministry of Justice of the Nation (2016-2018) and he has also worked eleven years in the Federal Penal Courts, as a law clerk of the General Prosecutor and the Federal Criminal Courts, as well as Secretary General of the National Cassation Penal Court (Room III). He is one of the founding members of “Velasco, Durrieu & Asoc. S.C.”, the biggest law firm specialized in business crimes of Argentina
Academic Activity: He has a long career teaching in the Universidad Catolica Argentina since 1995 until today. He has been in charge of the courses of General Theory of the process; Criminal Procedural Law; Seminar of Practice in Public Law; Criminal Law General Part, Criminal Law Special Part and Sanction Law of the City of Buenos Aires, as well as in the Law School of the Fasta University based in Mar del Plata. He has also participated as a professor in numerous courses, including the refresher course in criminal law (2016-2018) at the University of San Isidro, the Specialization in Criminal Law (2001-2019), the International Criminal Law Diploma of the Catholic University of La Plata, and the Compliance courses organized by the UCA Busines School (2017).
He has attended several reforming courses in Criminal Law, both in Argentina and abroad (France, Italy, Spain and the United States, among the most prominent). Luis has participated as a panelist in a vast number of national and international conferences, such as: “The victim in the Argentine criminal process” Florida Coastal School of Law (2005), “Natural Law and Life Protection”, Abat University Oliba Ceu, Barcelona (2007), “Forum on Business Criminal Law”, Madrid, Spain (2012), “The Command Responsibility: normative basis and jurisprudential application before the ICC”, European University of Rome (2018); among others.
Throughout his career he has published a wide variety of academic articles and monographic works of a scientific nature, all related to different issues about Argentine and foreign criminal law matters, in specialized academic publications, such as: “El Derecho”, “La Ley” (Thomson Reuters), “Prudentia Iuris” and “Microiuris”, among others.
Awards and designations: He has been distinguished in several occasions, highlighting the recognition granted by the “Institut des Hautes Études” de la Sécurité Intérieure (2002), as well as the recognition granted by the French Consul in Argentina for representing the Bermond family at the trial for murder of his daughter Perine (exchange student at the UCA), in 2006. In 2018 he was appointed Ordinary Professor of the “Universidad Católica Argentina”, and member of the Institute of Criminal Law of the Catholic University of La Plata.
Memberships: He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the UCA Law School (2008-2016); Advisor to the newspaper “El Derecho” in the publication of issues related to Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure (2008-2009); Member of the Bar Association of the City of Buenos Aires and Vice President of the Criminal Lawyers Society of Buenos Aires (Present); among other relevant charges.
